In Sam Shepard's play Icarus's Mother a day in the park leads to armageddon. The setting is a grassy knoll and a clear blue sky, albeit very stylized. The lighting is very yellow and static. However, the play culminates in a fireworks show or nuclear attack depending on your interpretation.
The play ends with a final loud explosion sound and very bright flash of light. The cue begins with a blast from a footlight built into the first step of the seating riser. Its on by itself for an instant; just long enough to etch the actors shadow on the cyc. Then, every light up to full, and finally darkness as the sound of the explosion decays away.
