Breaking Boundaries
Student Dance Concert

Grossmont College Dance Department
El Cajon, CA

Lighting Design by M. Scott Grabau

I have designed the lighting for Grossmont College's annual fall student dance concert for four consecutive years. I use the same lighting rig each year. It features color scrollers, two Cyberlights and four Intellabeams running on an ETC Expression console. The light plot can be viewed on the drafting page.

The lighting cues and sound playback are synchronized using a MIDI connection. Each year I design lighting for 12-14 new works. The plot is delivered to the electrics department while the dances are largely unfinished. Here are some highlights from the last few years.

"Eight Veils of Color" choreography by Cassie Krafft

"Fashionably Late" choreographed by Rolondo Rodriguez II
A dance about all things fashion.

"Terra Unearthed" choreography by Micaela King
The design for this dance features spots of white light that appear on the floor and fascinate the dancers.

"Gagavision" choreographed by Rolondo Rodriguez II
This is an over the top dance, music, lighting, and video montage.
